Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 (February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of this name believe they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually the West Island includes everything westward from the city of Lachine. Many times, it is credited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay there was not long. Brugel lived in Courtice in the vicinity of Oshawa Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer but the growth rate of her body meant she was able to outgrow her dance partner. According to an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I outgrew male partners I quit. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's case it was a suggestion by the drama instructor at her high school who pushed her into the right direction. It was her teacher who suggested she audition as Anne in their annual school production. Following a trial it, she was cast as the lead on stage in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program and graduated at the age of 20 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across both screens, drawing the most attention when she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and appeared only occasionally.
